Hello, I'm Emily

I am a self-taught potter based in West Cornwall and the face behind Nyra Studio. I work from my studio in a creative building in Penzance town and draw inspiration from the nature, beaches, and rural landscape surrounding Penzance.

My Story

I very quickly fell in love with working with clay after attending a pottery class and, a year later, Nyra Studio was born. My practice blends both hand-building and wheel-throwing. I love the way these two methods allow for different expressions, each with their own rhythm and character. Whether connecting slabs, sculpting, or turning clay on the wheel, I’m drawn to the balance between control and imperfection: sometimes the unexpected results are the best!

Nature is my biggest influence: the shifting tones of the sea, weathered rocks, rugged moors, and the soft, muted palette of the Cornish landscape. I aim to reflect those textures and moods in the ceramics I make — objects that feel organic, timeless, and made to be held and used every day.

At Nyra Studio, everything is created in small batches or as unique one off pieces, with a deep respect for material and process. I believe in thoughtful craftsmanship and in pieces that bring calm and connection to the spaces we live in.

Thank you for being here. Whether you’ve brought a piece into your home or are simply visiting, I’m grateful to share my work with you.
